Earlier in the year my work colleague Kevin asked – with the aid of a mild arm twist – if I would photograph his and partner Nathalie’s wedding. Arm twists aside, I jumped at the chance.
With the insider’s knowledge (stolen) from my very experienced and talented wedding photographer girlfriend, Caroline, I knew a pre wedding / engagement shoot would be a good idea; an opportunity for them to get used to the camera, and a confidence booster for me.
Leigh Woods is one of my favourite places in Bristol, so when Nathalie and Kevin accepted it as the location for the shoot I replied – in the only way a bloke can to another bloke at work – "nice one" (really, I was buzzing inside). Leigh woods is where I go when I need the stresses of everyday city life washed away. I love wandering off the beaten track into the undergrowth where, even on a busy weekend, you can isolate yourself from the rest of the world and embark on your own little adventure. This is exactly what I wanted to do on our shoot.
And that is what we did.
Kevin instantly broke the ice by climbing the first tree he saw and striking a bicep tensing pose. He also kept Nathalie and me in constant smiles through the use of his most prized, personality asset – the “Dad Joke”.
Nathalie and Kevin are a beautiful couple. As Kevin’s work colleague it is hard for me to resist the laddish tease of – "how did you ever manage to get such a beautiful and lovely girlfriend” but alas, as they both looked so handsome on the shoot, I will have to back down on that front.
So here they are, the beautiful couple Kevin and Nathalie, in the beautiful Leigh woods, on a day I’m likely to remember for a long time...
