I'm super grateful for all the opportunities 2015 has brought to expand and explore my photography skills, as well as all the beautiful people I have collaborated with and met on the way! This year I've photographed two engagement shoots and my first wedding; 2nd shot for my lovely girlfriend Caroline; taken more travel snaps on our second trip to Malta; photographed lots of environments for architectural photomontages (CGI), and verified images (for Preconstruct); and shot a time-lapse and show-suite apartment for Urban and Civic (also for Preconstruct).
Whilst 2015 has given me great diversity, my aim for 2016 is to bring more focus and direction to my work, specifically in the area of street photography. The realisation of this was not brought on by the above opportunities, but by the 1000's of daily snaps I've taken over the past year on my humble iPhone. It is in many ways the perfect street camera; small and light; discreet and unimposing; manoeuvrable and nimble; and most importantly, always in my pocket!
Many of these iPhone snaps have been taken on my way to work, and even when (like most days) I follow the same route, I've been surprised by the infinite photographic opportunities the same environment brings me everyday. Each day the light paints the streets differently; each day new street art and graffiti appears; each day new characters enter the narrative; each day the weather changes; and each day I bring a slightly different version of myself to the table with different perspectives, inspirations and moods. So everyday something new and different POPS out at me from the universe and says 'capture me'.
I'm sure 2016 will bring more of the same but this year i'll be introducing some new shifts, in order to take this street photography lark more seriously. This includes the purchase of a more portable 'proper' camera, the Olympus OMD E-M10, but more importantly the dedication of more time and travel to the art.
So this time next year I commit to creating an alternative blog post titled 'My Best Street Photography of 2016'. Wish me luck and for now enjoy this post showcasing a collection of my favourite iPhone photos of 2015!
The vast majority of shots have been taken with the iPhone 5s, which I purchased in August, the rest with a iPhone 4 (massive improvement on camera quality with the 5s). All but 2 of the pics have been processed using VSCOCam on iOs, the other 2 have been through Lightroom. I've also used the App Lens Distortions for a couple of the recent shots.
I hope you enjoy and Happy New Year!
